A standard hybrid charges its battery through regenerative braking and the gas engine — you never plug it in. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has a larger battery you can charge from a wall outlet, giving you a dedicated electric-only driving range (typically 25–50 miles) before the gas engine takes over.

Using a Level 2 home charger, the bZ charges from 10% to 80% in approximately 8–9 hours overnight. With DC fast charging (up to 150 kW), you can add significant range in about 30 minutes.

Toyota hybrids follow the same service intervals as conventional vehicles. The hybrid battery carries an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty in most states (10-year/150,000-mile in California-emission states). Regenerative braking also reduces brake wear significantly.

For most daily commuters under 25 miles round-trip, a plug-in hybrid like the RAV4 Prime or Prius Prime lets you drive almost entirely on electricity. For longer commutes without charging infrastructure, any Toyota hybrid delivers exceptional fuel economy without range anxiety.

Many Toyota plug-in hybrids and the bZ may qualify for federal EV tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act, subject to income limits and vehicle MSRP caps. Consult your tax advisor and ask our team about current eligibility for specific models.
